![]() ![]() Right now is a difficult time for me personally. Have you gone to them and mourned with them? Are we willing to bear each other’s burdens that they won’t feel the full weight of it on their shoulders? Do we consult with the Lord as to how we can best comfort those that are not feeling comfort? Is there something that those that are on the outside looking in can do to help? Sometimes, for me just knowing that someone is there is all I need. ![]() What we need to remember during these trying times is that “He does hear us. Yet, the Lord’s timing was always perfect. From my experiences, I can say that the Lord’s timing was never my timing. These trying times can be financial, educational, health, family, and so many others! I can recall with perfect clarity certain prayers I have given to be delivered from certain situations. ![]() Some of our hard times are just more visible to the world than others are. I know this may shock some of you, but everyone has hard times. I hope that as we are able to study this talk, we will be able to learn the lesson we need at this time. You can see why it became a “prison-temple” for Joseph. My family was able to visit Liberty Jail and it is a very sobering place. Liberty Jail was a dark time for the Saints, and especially for those men that were in prison with Joseph. I have seen that those who seem to have it all together are fighting the biggest battles.Įlder Holland gave three lessons we can learn from Liberty Jail. There is a quote that says, “ Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” It is very true. There are principles that apply to each of us, no matter what our situation. It just seemed really dark to me.Īs I started to go through my healing process, I started to have more experiences in my room that turned it into a sanctuary and temple for me. Because I was sick, I spent a lot of time in bed there. For me, my prison was my bedroom (literally). While serving as a mission president in the Canada Toronto East Mission in 2008, Callister was called to be a General Authority. He later served as a regional representative and as an Area Seventy for the North America Northwest Area. He was the president of the Verdugo Hills Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and he has also served as a bishop and stake president. In addition to his devotion to his family, he has also been involved in his community and especially in service to the Lord. Numbers and clauses have not, however, been the focus of Callister’s life. He spent most of his career practicing tax law in California. Education & CareerĬallister earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from BYU and went on to earn a juris doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master’s degree specializing in tax law from New York University Law School. They were married in December 1968 and have six children and many grandchildren. When he returned, he attended Brigham Young University, where he met Kathryn Louise Saporiti. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Atlantic States, based in Washington, DC. Tad Richards Callister was born December 17, 1945, in Glendale, California. Callister has a family legacy of Church leadership, and he augments that legacy with his own distinguished service.
